I’m surprised I’ve never talked about the joys of owning a big coat on here before. I LOVE big coat season. I’ve always been a ‘jackets girl’, two years ago I owned nine winter jackets; a camel waterfall jacket, a deep blue faux-fur coat, a lightwash denim jacket, a royal blue bomber jacket, a faux-leather jacket, a black fleece (a requirement for where I worked at the time), a grey cardie-jacket hybrid, a camo jacket and a nice gilet (remember the zhee-lay/gillitt debate?).
This year, I’m down to one. I mean, sure, I don’t see myself fully getting rid of my other jackets any time soon. I am, of course, a bit of a clothes hoarder. But I’ve entrusted one, very special item in my wardrobe to keep me warm all winter.
And the prestigious title of ‘Big Coat of the Year’ goes to…
My amazing teddy coat.
I love my teddy coat. However, we had a very rocky start, I must confess!
It was September. A week before going back to uni. I had my Autumn/Winter outfits picked and planned out meticulously. I decided to do a bit of shopping in Cambridge, and I knew I wanted to show off my brand new; unworn teddy coat. A coat I’d wanted for months; a coat I just knew I was going to love, right from the off.
So I did my shopping. I got on the bus home. I went to undo my jacket due to the fact that it was an unusually stifling September 20th…
A BUTTON FELL OFF!!!
A button fell off. Of my £60 coat. A button. Fell. Off. So yeah, I mean, that was definitely a con. I wouldn’t advise buying a teddy coat from New Look, that’s for sure.
But, don’t write off the idea just yet. There are infinite pros for teddy coats in general.
Firstly, they’re warm and cosy. You can sit at the bus stop for an hour in the snow and still experience that amazing sleepy, balmy feeling. Secondly, you look da bomb. They’re SO in right now, they couldn’t be more out. Walk into John Lewis with one of these bad boys on and you end up having to fend off the YSL staff trying to sell you one of their expensive perfumes. They’re perfect for anything; 6AM starts at sixth form, 3PM starts at uni, job interviews, family functions, dates… Team it up with a simple black dress and a monochrome scarf, and the world is your oyster.
I continue to be in awe of my teddy coat every single day, and I recommend you all get one for yourselves.
Go on, try it! You might like it!
