Hey lovelies, I’m back!
Earlier this week, I thought to myself;
“Why on Earth do I go to such time-consuming lengths to take care of my skin, given that I’m already scarred, the damage is already done, and everyone thinks I’m riddled with acne. What’s the point?”
And honestly, I was right. What is the point? I suffered with severe acne from the ages of nine to fifteen(ish) and it wasn’t an easy ride, to say the least. It wasn’t until I was prescribed Dianette (a form of oral contraceptive) that it really cleared up, although I still had to deal with terrible scarring after the fact.
I’ve always been upset about this, because my cleansing routine is thorough, at least seven or eight steps every day, yet I still feel as if I look like the water’s barely touched my face!
It’s been a mare to deal with, and honestly I’m in the process of being referred to a dermatologist, considering dermabrasion/punch excision, whatever… But it has taught me a lot about self-care.
Even with acne scarring, acne, psoriasis, eczema and the like, having a thorough cleansing routine is still very important. It’s about looking ahead, in twenty years’ time, your skin condition will hopefully be a distant memory. However; adult acne, wrinkles and bags are a real thing and it’s best to get on top of it while you’re still young. After all, hopping from one skin condition to the other is exhausting and confidence-destroying.
So, that was an extremely long-winded way of saying I’m about to drop my skincare routine. But these are guidelines, not rules. Everyone has different biological makeup, what’s good for the goose may not necessarily be good for the gander.
In other words, we’re all different. Find out what works for you.
NB: My main form of acne control is currently my medication, Limecycline. But this routine certainly helps to keep it in check! This routine also isn’t a magical cure, and if your acne is severe I would recommend consulting your general practitioner for more effective treatment. Enjoy!
